He received his Ph.D. in 2004 from the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon, France, under the supervision of Prof. L. Emsley, before spending four years as a postdoctoral researcher with Pr. R.G. Griffin at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA. He returned to France in 2008 with a “Chaire d’Excellence” from the French National Research Agency (ANR) and an Intra-European Marie Curie Fellowship to set up high-field MAS-DNP at the CEA Grenoble. He focuses on method and technology development for MAS-DNP for applications from material science to bio-inspired chemistry. In 2013 he was the recipient of the Regitze R. Vold Memorial Prize

Dr Sabine Hediger

Sabine Hediger is a CNRS Researcher in the Institute for Nanoscience and Cryogenics (INAC) at the CEA Grenoble. She received a Ph.D. in physical chemistry in 1997 from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETHZ) under the supervision of Profs. R.R. Ernst and B.H. Meier, followed by a position as a research scientist at Nestlé Research Centre in Lausanne, Switzerland. In 1999 she obtained a research position at the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) in France, first at the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon in the laboratory of Pr. L. Emsley and then at the CEA Grenoble, where she develops her research interests in solid-state NMR and DNP methodology, specifically towards biomolecular applications.

Dr Subhradip Paul

Subhradip Paul is a research scientist in the Interdisciplinary Research Institute of Grenoble (IRIG) at CEA, Grenoble. He received his PhD under Prof. P. K. Madhu in 2012 from TIFR, India. He did his first postdoctoral research under Prof. C. Jaroniec at OSU, US and second under Dr Gaël De Paëpe at CEA, France. In 2015 he started working as the research facility manager for the first commercial DNP facility in the UK, based in the University of Nottingham. He moved to CEA, Grenoble as permanent researcher in 2021. His expertise is methodology development in DNP and NMR and trying to justify things with Floquet Theory and Lindbladians. He adores anything to do with separating protons from themselves or others. Ardent supporter of Lionel Messi, Sachin Tendulkar, and Roger Federer. Any opinion against the three is not acceptable. He loves to haul photography equipment up the mountains on weekends, and read anything by Elif Shafak, Haruki Murakami, and George Orwell.

Post Doctoral Researchers

Tamali Nag

Tamali is a postdoctoral scholar who is currently focusing on characterization of nanomaterials using ultra-high field solid-state NMR (ssNMR) and DNP. She is jointly supervised by Dr. Gaël De Paëpe (CEA / Univ. Grenoble Alpes) and Dr. Olivier Lafon (Univ. Lille/CNRS). She completed her Ph.D. with Dr. David Bryce at the University of Ottawa, Canada while working extensively on crystal-engineering noncovalent interaction based novel cocrystal and used ssNMR to probe them. She acquired her Master’s in Chemistry from Pondicherry University, India under Dr. M.M. Balakrishnarajan’s supervision and finished her Master’s thesis on computational chemistry where she studied topological insulators using DFT methodologies. Beside “Science“-ing and “geek”-ing along with the ideas of Feynman, Bose and deGrasse Tyson, Tamali loves grooving on Indian classical kathaak music, EDM, classic English rock, Reggaetón and Afrobeats! Only thing that keeps her from zoning out is good ol’ Charlotte Bronte, Sidney Sheldon J.K. Rowling, Emily Dickinson and Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay writings. Multicultural exposure to several cuisine has always been her favourite way to connect with people and she enjoys being a hodophile, hopefully she can “quantize” the idea of all the beautiful landscapes into a single-visible frame someday!!

Students

Shadi Alarab

Shadi Alarab received his Master's degree in nanoscience and nanotechnology from the University Grenoble Alpes, France. He performed his internship at SyMMES-STEP in CEA Grenoble, France, under the supervision of Dr. Dmitry Aladakov, working on synthesis and characterization of colloidal lead-halide perovskite nanocrystals, their ligand engineering, study and optimization of their solution deposition on various substrates for the use in 2D materials-based photodetectors and solar cells. He is currently a PhD student at the IRIG-MEM-CEA under the supervision of Dr. Gaël De Paëpe, working on revealing perovskite nanocrystal surface termination and ligand partition by ultra-low temperature DNP.

Quentin Reynard-Feytis

Quentin Reynard - Feytis has received his Master’s degree in Physical Chemistry in 2021 from the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon (ENS Lyon), France. He had several internships experience in the field of NMR, working notably with Pr. Sami Jannin in Lyon, Pr. Ashok Ajoy in UC Berkeley and Dr. Gaël De Paëpe, in Grenoble. He is currently doing his PhD at IRIG-MEM-CEA under the supervision of Gaël De Paëpe, working on NMR methodology for low-temperature MAS-DNP. Outside of the lab, he loves outside activities such as climbing, mountaineering, and to play music. He claims to be a french climber, alpinist and spectroscopist who’s notably famous for his uncommon but nonetheless delicious recipe of the bolognese lasagna. He is the father of a fat black cat whose name is Blacky.

Stasa Velickovic

Stasa Velickovic received her Master’s degree in Biochemistry and Molecular biology in 2023 from the University of Lyon 1, France. She has several internship experiences in the field of Bio-NMR, such as studying atomic level interaction between viral RNA and capsid protein of denugue virus with liquid-state NMR in the group of Dr. Anja Bockmann in Lyon in 2022. During her six-month-long internship in 2023, she worked on the development of DNP-NMR methodology for protein investigation in its cellular environment with Dr. Sabine Hediger and Dr.Aurélien Deniaud. She is currently doing her PhD at IRIG-MEM-CEA, under the supervision of Dr. Sabine Hediger and Dr. Rime Kerfah. She is working on combining selective DNP-NMR and site-specific labeling to study active sites of large biomolecular assemblies. Outside of the lab, she loves reading books, traveling, studying new languages and cultures.

Ankan Nath

Ankan Nath is an undergraduate student majoring in Physics at IISER Pune, India. He is conducting his Master’s thesis project at CEA Grenoble, France, under the supervision of Dr. Gaël De Paëpe, working on the elucidation of perovskite nanocrystal surfaces using a synergistic combination of DNP-enhanced solid-state NMR and density functional theory. Ankan’s scientific motivation lies at the interface of Physics and Chemistry, and the myriad possibilities of utilizing interdisciplinary approaches to understand physical systems. Outside of research, he loves to read and play badminton. He is a big fan of psychological thrillers, be it books, movies or series. He is also gradually discovering his passion for cooking.
